Clean the Interior and Exterior
Washing your car thoroughly before transport is highly recommended. A clean exterior makes it much easier to conduct a visual inspection and spot any pre-existing scratches, dents, or paint chips. You should also clean the interior and remove any loose items, such as sat-navs, charging cables, and air fresheners, to prevent them from moving around during transit.
Document Pre-Transport Condition
Once your car is clean, take high-quality, dated photographs of the vehicle from all angles, including the front, back, sides, and interior. If there are any minor blemishes, document them clearly. When the transport driver arrives, they will complete a condition report. Having your own photo evidence ensures peace of mind and clear documentation.
Check Mechanical Condition & Fluid Levels
Your car needs to be in operable condition unless you have arranged for a non-runner recovery service. Check that the battery is fully charged, fluid levels (oil, coolant, screenwash) are topped up, and tyres are properly inflated. Additionally, deactivate or remove toll tags (such as Dart Charge or toll transponders) to prevent them from registering charges as the transporter travels along UK motorways.
